I saw this opening night and can easily say it's my favorite in the series. I think the studio seemed a little leery about an installment of the franchise without fan favorite Wolverine, but Magneto steps in mightily in the role of ultimate badass and Hugh Jackman's presence is not missed at all in my opinion. See it to watch lead duo Fassbender and McAvoy make sweet mutant magic together. If "Ocean's 11" had sex with the James Bond franchise their kid might be "First Class." Did anybody else see it? What did you think?

It may not be subtle, but it is a return to what made the series so good in the first place [and is] the first X-Men movie to contain some truly spectacular action/special-effects set pieces. Also, McAvoy and Fassbender are great as Professor X and Magneto. Good Review! Check out mine when you can!
ReplyDeleteabsolutely Dan O. I could watch a few more movies with Fassbender as Magneto and McAvoy as the Xavier. With those two leading the way and the introduction of more fan favorites....this could run for a while longer. can't wait for blu ray.
ReplyDeleteGlad someone agreed with me! I think this is the best of the franchise. Any complaints I had are minor (I thought some CGI could have been a little cleaner) and the acting and story really carried the film, imagine that!
ReplyDeleteCannot believe how much I loved this and despite the rushed production window; this totally rocked. If this is what we got from a rushed rough cut then imagine what Vaughn and company could have done with a bigger production window:P This was better than X2 and you can quote me on that!
ReplyDelete@Marc you are quoted sir, and I agree wholeheartedly.
ReplyDeleteStill haven't seen it but from what I've heard it may be the first X-Men movie I actually like (well, I did quite like X-Men 2 but the others were rubbish).
ReplyDelete@Dan I think the setting change helps with this one a lot. Also having Fassbender steal the show doesn't hurt. Give it a chance you might be surprised.
ReplyDeleteI finally saw it! And I agree, it is easily the best of the bunch.
ReplyDeleteFassbender and Kevin Bacon were excellent! Loved the confrontation with them towards the end.
